Witness an active volcano on this excellent hiking and trekking adventure on the Piton de la Fournaise in Réunion Island. Explore magical lunar landscapes within the region’s National Park with a team of knowledgeable expert guides.

Taking place every Wednesday, this six-hour trek takes you through trails that provide stunning panoramic views of the jagged surrounding mountains.

You will first meet your team for a full safety brief and a quick run through the day's itinerary. The hike begins with a descent down into the “Enclos”, past running lava flows on your way to the crater base. The guide will explain how this volcanic activity has shaped the Réunion Island over time to create what it is today. Several routes are available depending on the volcanoes state and activity. The land in the area is coloured with green, grey and red hues that seem like another world!

Whether you’re alone, or with your family and friends, a team of local guides will be at hand to share their passion and knowledge of the culture and intricacies of this amazing region during this hike on the Piton de la Fournaise volcano.

We have ticked all the regular spots and than quickly changed our plans due to harsh weather (5 degrees, windy and rainy) conditions (considering that other days we were enjoying the sun and 30 degrees in the beaches). Luckily Renaud was well equipped with the spare raincoats and other wet and cold weather gear, as well as has chosen the alternative route with still stunning scenery and avoiding most of the bad weather.

Si vous venez à la Réunion, cette randonnée est obligatoire. Le guide, Stéphane surnommé ti tang, est très dynamique. Il sait s'adapter à chaque niveau, personne ne se sent laissé de côté. Le petit plus, Stéphane aime partager sur son île : il nous a fait goûter le macatia et nous a chanté des chansons réunionaises. Nous avons adoré cette randonnée. Merci Stéphane.
